New Songs

So I've been writing a lot lately. Very excited with the stuff I'm coming up with, and I've been getting into the creative process like never before. It's very fun and challenging. I've noticed an improvement with each new song, and feel I'm growing more and more as a songwriter.
My plan is to get into the studio around the beginning of this coming year. I just hope that once I get the final product to all the fans, they will enjoy the songs as much or more than I do right now. I've got quite a few tunes at the moment, but will keep the writing going until I feel I have the best collection of songs for the album. I can't wait.

OSU Homecoming Weekend

So, now that I've set out on my own from No Justice, I've taken some time off to recharge and prepare for my newest adventure, working on a solo album. It comes at a great time, because it's football season! Love watching some OSU football!

I got to experience OSU Homecoming this past weekend. It had been way too long. One of the best Homecomings in the Country in my opinion. Friday, Beki and I met some friends at Dirty's to "get ready" for Walk Around. For those of you who are not aware of what Walk Around is, I'll give ya a short explanation. All the Frats and Sororities team up to build "House Decks" (floats that are built on the lawns of the fraternities), and you walk around all the houses and enjoy the festivities. It always amazes me how detailed they can get with colored paper stuck in chicken wire.

After that, Beki and I headed to Gallagher-Iba for the Hoops and Homecoming ceremony. A double shot of Homecoming and Men's and Women's Basketball scrimmage. One of the best and most entertaining segments of the entire thing was the introduction of the Men's Basketball team and then watching them dance with the Pom's. Even Coach Ford got in on the action. They certainly play basketball better than they dance. Thankfully! Beki and the Poms had been working all week with them to get it looking good. Very fun. I'm looking forward to Basketball season, both team's look very much improved. Plus one of the Women's players can DUNK! That night we met back up at Dirty's with friends and ran into former Cowboy, Charlie Johnson, who now plays for the Indianapolis Colts. Was a great night and perfect ending to a fun day.

Saturday, was game-day, and my buddy Jordan Doolen, who was in the band 12 Pearls with me, came into town to go to the OSU-Missouri game with me. With such a late kick off set at 8:15, we had plenty of time to find people and tailgate. I've never really tailgated too much before.....it's fun, but it is so hard to find people in all that mess. There are people everywhere! We found a few friends and were able to catch up and have a few drinks, and then we headed on in to watch OSU beat Missouri. Great game and over all a fun game. OSU looks better and better every week. Go Pokes! That night Kit Nowlin also a member of 12 Pearls met us out at Dirty's and then we all hung out at the house until the early hours of Sunday morning.

What a fun Homecoming weekend. I was hurting almost the entire next week, but it was totally worth it.

Until next time....

Dirty Sundays......RIP

Well it's been about two weeks now since Dan O'Brien's decided to discontinue Dirty Sundays. I wanna say thanks to all the fans who came out and supported the event, as well as the amazing talented artists that played. For those fans who hadn't made it out yet, I'm sorry you missed it. It was a blast for everyone involved. But no worries. I think this was a great thing that can keep going. So keep your eyes peeled because I'll be working something out real soon. Thanks again.

So I played the first of many Dirty Sundays at Dan O'Briens in OKC last night. The crowd was great (even with the storm) and it was nice to get all the requests. It was fun playing with my good friends Evan Felker from The Turnpike Troubadours, & Clint Osmus of Clint Osmus and the Bushmills. If you missed last night, don't worry, we will be doing it every Sunday at Dan O'Brien's 2747 W. Memorial Rd in OKC. Cover is $5 and next week we'll have Aron Holt from Mama Sweet and Chad Sullins. Come on out and enjoy some Red Dirt acoustic music.

One of my Grandfather's bands

So my Aunt just recently gave me a picture of my Grandfather, Kenneth Jackson, with one of his bands from the 30's. He's the guy with the fiddle. I thought I would post it. I never got to know him because he passed away in April 1969, but I have a few pics and my Dad has some recordings Kenneth and his band made. My Grandmother has told me several stories of all the shows, barn dances and events she would go to with him, and I can't help but think how our musical lives are so similar. I just wonder sometimes what it would be like to sit down and talk about those days and maybe play a few songs together.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy a bit of my past. I'm gonna try and get those recordings transferred to a digital format. We'll see.

UPDATE:
The name of this band was Kenneth Jackson and the Prairie Night Owls. Just found out this info!

Our day at KFOR in OKC

Here are some pics of when Steve and I went to KFOR studios in OKC to plug No Justice's upcoming show at The Wormy Dog in February. We were on in the morning and then again on the evening broadcast. Our buddy Evan Davis came with us for the evening broadcast. That's him sitting at the anchor's desk. It was a lot of fun, and I got to catch up with Kevin Ogle who goes to the same church as my folks in Edmond. Thanks to everyone there. We enjoyed the show and our time at the studio. It's always fun to see the behind the scenes stuff.

Wormy Dog Acoustic

So this past Wednesday I played an acoustic show at The Wormy Dog in OKC. I wanna thank everyone who came out. It was a great crowd and a lot of people I hadn't seen in a while. I know I had fun and it sounded like everyone there was really into it. I started around 945 and was having such a good time I decided to not take a break and played until 1145. I played a lot of my originals from the past as well as my new songs I've been writing recently. My buddy Devon Strickland, Devonray Photography, came out and took a ton of pics! These are just a few. Thanks again Devon. The Wormy Dog filmed the show too, and will be posting some clips on their website. Make sure you check it out.
I was glad to see my buddy Gregg Luther was in the crowd. If you haven't heard of Gregg Luther you need to check him out. I had the pleasure of singing on his latest album and he's starting to work on some new stuff. I can't wait to hear it.
I'll be doing a lot more of these acoustic shows so if you missed this one, there will be more.

Later,
Brandon
